Just wanna share with you a joke forwarded by my friend. I’ve sent it to all my fellow researchers, and all of them can’t help bursting into laughters. Somehow, some of them said it did really put a drop of tear in their eyes… …
A priest, a doctor and a fresh Research Scholar die and go the heaven’s
gate, they hear God’s voice and He says:
" My sons, i am really very sorry but the heaven is full and i can accommodate only one of u, so to choose the rightful person one by one tell me what u have done in ur lifetime."
The priest goes up first and says:
" well god i am a priest i am ur humble servant and have spent all my life working to spread ur message."
The doctor goes up next and says:
" well i am a doctor and i have helped thousands of people recover from there illnesses and saved countless lives."
The Research Scholar goes up and says:
" well i have done my PhD from —- and for—– years and…."
before he could say any further, the gate of heaven opened and god comes out with tears in his eyes and says to the Research Scholar …
" Say no more my son, come with me coz u have already been through
hell."

Wish

纷 乱的世 界,狼 藉的荒 凉;

Finally my dream of visiting Hong Kong came true… It was a 4days 3 nights free & easy trip, it was really FREE & EASY, however it was really too short. I feel as if the time was flying with light speed throughout the whole trip. We were all the while rushing here and there trying to visit all the famous places in our list; as a result we didn’t really have much time for shopping. Have a bit regret about it, because this might be my one and only visit to Hong Kong…

Hong Kong is great and fantastic. It is as great as I could imagine, and as what Soo May said, when you walk in the Hong Kong city, you will feel as if you are in the TVB drama due to the dramatic dialogues of the people around you- but to be frank, I would say that it was just as expected, but not beyond my imagination. Perhaps Hong Kong has many things more than that, because there’re still a lot of interesting places that I didn’t manage to go…

Anyway, we’ve still visited quite a lot of places. Spent all the time walking yet no weight lost… we went to the world-famous Wong Tai Sin Temple. We were really so excited to be there because we always see people praying there in the TVB dramas. However the people there made me quite disappointed. A lot of the people there were trying to make money in the name of Wong Tai Sin…

We joined a short night tour on the first day. The tour guide brought us to the Victoria Peak (tai ping shan) to view the panoramic Hong Kong night view from the Lion Pavilion. It was wonderful! According to them, the Hong Kong island night view is the world’s most beautiful one, don’t know whether it’s true, I thought it is only the no. 3, after the one in Italy and another one in Japan… Tell you what, the people there really brilliant at making money. They’ll take the photos for us by their sophisticated camera set at the peak, because they know that we couldn’t get the best view by our own digital cameras, even though we’ve already made some ISO (?) settings. And, one photo cost 70HKD!

We went to the buzzing Lan Kwai Fong as well- of course not for any drink, we just went down for a short walk, just to look around the bars and restaurants there, and also to check out whether there was any celebrity hanging around. Haih, so disappointed, none at all! The place looked really happening, but the area is quite small. I think our Bangsar is probably bigger. No wonder they said, don’t compare it with your Bangsar… I truely wished that I could see someone famous, so that I can give more marks to this place. Anyway I still felt very glad to be there- again, I think this is also due to the influence of those TVB dramas! Besides the Lan Kwai Fong, there is a place called the SoHo area. There is a Guinness World Records world’s longest covered escalator located somewhere nearby, we tried to search for it because that was the place where Faye Wong seeing Tony Leong walking out from his condominium in the movie of “Chongqing Shenlin”. So depressing I didn’t manage to experience it!

The Avenue of Star was another place that I was longing for. The scenery there was extremely pretty because we can see the whole view of the Victoria Harbour and the island skyline along the Tsim Sha Tsui waterfront promenade. And we can see the handprints of many of the celebrities. There is also a statue of the Hong Kong Jin Xiang Jiang Awards standing up right at the end of the promenade. I thought almost all Hong Kong movie stars and popular singers would have their handprints here, who knows only a few I could see. The wind was strong that night, unfortunately. Couldn’t get fine photos. And we missed the Symphony of multimedia Lights presentation too.

We went to the Madame Tussauds the next day. This is really my favourite spot! There are so many wax- made celebrities, I would say exploring the Madame Tussauds is really like riding an emotional roller-coaster, as what they emphasized! You can stand next to famous movie stars & singers, like Jackie Chan, Brad Pitt, Michelle Yeoh, Kelly Chan, Ayumi Hamasaki, Teresa Teng, Anita Mui, Andy Lau; you can see celebrities of sports like Yao Ming, David Beckham; and political fields, like president Bush, Clinton; great people like the Mahatma Ganthi, Albert Einstein, Princess Diana, Deng Xiao Ping, the Hong Kong business leader Li Ka Shing, William Shakespeare, Picasso, Mozart, David Copperfield…

We’ve also made our way through the busy ladies market at Mong Kok, the Temple Street Night market at Yau Ma Tei, Cheung Sha Wan Fashion Street, Apliu Street Flea Market… there’re quite a number of markets for shopping, but I don’t really interested in the things they sell. This markets looked like our Petaling street and pasar malam- maybe they sell something different, but the attitude of these people were same. Haven’t really bargained already being scolded. Hong Kong citizens are rude and ego, I felt. Is that because of the diversity (a combination of western & eastern culture?) and sophistication of their city?

Ocean Park was the place that we planned not to go, but finally we went because I think it is one of the famous landmarks of Hong Kong that we should not miss out. The pandas An An and Jia Jia were all the while sleeping, we couldn’t get a good snap of them. The Ocean park’s underwater world is quite similar to the one in Sentosa Island Singapore. We took a ride of the flying ship (Hai dao chuan). Wah! That was incredibly scary. Anyway the shows of the dorphins and sealions were very nice, and the trainers were all young guys, and they are very cute, just like what we see in the dramas (again!).

We bought a weekly pass of museum, with which we can visit to all the museums in Hong Kong in a week. Nevertheless we just managed to go to the Hong Kong Science Museum, Space Museum, Museum of History & HK Cultural Museum. I really love their museums, especially the Museum of History & Cultural Museum. I think all Chinese in Malaysian who love the “China 5000years’ culture” will envy the Hong Kong people because their museums are really amazing! Every single corner of the museum also can put a lot of twinkles in our eyes and made us say “Wah!”. Trust me! Unfortunately the museum of art was closed, otherwise I guess there must have many more fascinating things inside.

Their Expo Promenade is also a very nice place. There is a Forever Blooming Bauhinia sculpture and the Reunification Monument in front of Hong Kong Convention and exhibition center. The design of the exhibition centre is like a bird, and its head is facing the North, indicating that the return of Hong Kong to the Beijing (China)- very meaningful, right? And another story about the Expo & Convention Centre was, this was the place where Nicholas slipped down along the roof top in the movie of "New Police Story"…(again!)

We went to the Repulse Bay (qin sui wan) and sham sui wan, the beach looked like a crescent. Sometimes it’s very nice join the short tour because the tour guide could tell us a lot of stories of the Hong Kong famous people. He showed us where is the condominium of Jackie Chan, Jacky Cheung, Leon Lai & Zhou Xing Chi, the golf club & the business building of Li Ka Seng, and much more. The cons, however, we would be influenced by what he said, even he asked us to go and buy jewelleries in Jackie Chan’s company we also went and bought! Yes, we bought. We bought the super expensive feng sui gold pendant that was also wore by Yong Jo Yi. Hearsay it creates good luck. Hopefully it works…And I guess it does, because I won one of the Best Posters Awards in the 30th Anual Malaysian Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Conference.:P

Hong Kong looks a bit disorganised but impressive; there are a lot of advertising boards hanging everywhere above our heads, especially in the Kowloon part, but I don’t know why I just love to see those shining signboards. They made the atmosphere so happening. Kowloon looked like our frustrating Pudu Raya in daytime, the apartment there were old and dirty; but I really like its night view. I’m really amazed while walking along the roads in Tsim Sha Tsui, as the environment was so dramatic and unreal, and the people on street dressed up so pleasantly as if they were acting in a movie or drama. The Hong Kong island, on the other hand, is a different story. It is very well-organised, with all the marvelous and extremely high buildings. It quite looked like Singapore. We can see many pretty office ladies and men in the Central (zhong wan). The schools opened on 1st of Sept after their long summer holidays, we were just in time to see their students hanging around everywhere after school, and they all wore different uniforms, and they were all very cute, even though some of the girls were stained with thick make-up…

Feel quite regret also that we didn’t manage to go to the New Territories. Perhaps there will be a great deal of fantastic places to be explored. I know that there is a wishing tree at Tai Po, we wanted to go but finally we gave up when they told us that nowadays the authority no longer allows people to throw the praying stuffs onto the tree due to some environmental problems (?). So I think that’s no point we just go and observe the tree, since we need to take more than 3 hours to go to that place. Have to take taxi too, I think that place is quite ulu, there is no MTR station there. Didn’t manage to go to the Sai Kung seafood street too- you know, the place where the police and villain always play hide and seek and shooting in the movies, and they always break the aquariums, and then all the fishes would be flung on the floor…(again!)

I think I’ll miss Hong Kong, even though it has quite a lot of flaws. If you ask, will I go traveling there again? I may say yes- or no. Perhaps I will go there again when I visit China one day. Don’t ask me when, I do really really hope I can tell you when…
